Agunot

The existence of agunot is one of the most terrible and severe phenomena in the Jewish world. The reality of a husband or wife using Jewish law as a tool to extort and act unjustly toward the other spouse and to take away their liberty is extremely horrific and must be fought with the utmost force using the many Halachic and legal means that exist today.

Over the past few years, I have worked closely with the rabbinical court in Israel and worldwide to successfully release several dozen women from the harsh agunah bonds. (There were also a few chained men).

I view my work in releasing agunah women as an important calling.

Women who are being refused a get and are struggling with financial difficulties receive monetary support through my office from philanthropic organizations, so that every woman can receive her get.

An agunah is a “living widow” and fighting for her must be at the very top of the agenda in the Jewish world of the twenty-first century.

Over the years, we have succeeded in releasing 250 women.
